About Me

Angel Rubiel Gonzalez is an educator, researcher and speaker with a focus on Black and Latino men and boys. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Africana and Puerto Rican/Latino Studies Department. His interests include: Black and Latinx Masculinities, Black and Latinx Existentialism, the Sociology of Education, and Critical Theories of Race, Class, Gender and Sexuality. His manuscript in progress titled, "Living Dissonance: Race and Masculinities in Early Adolescence," examines how Black and Latinx boys in two middle schools navigate, with varying degrees of success, the often contradictory American narratives of race, class and gender and how their journeys impact their search for academic success in the 21st century U.S. He has delivered talks and scholarly presentations at the American Educational Research Association, the Caribbean Philosophical Association and the Critical Ethnic Studies Association. Dr. Gonzalez has also published his work in NBC Latino as well as in the edited volume titled: Sexualities in Education: A Reader.
