The Department of World Languages, Literatures, & Linguistics at West Virginia University (https://worldlanguages.wvu.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Linguistics/Spanish beginning August 2019. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities: teaching undergraduate and graduate Spanish language and content classes (including a language teaching methods class), maintaining an active research agenda, and coordinating lower-level Spanish language classes, graduate teaching assistants, and other instructional staff.

The department offers M.A. degree programs in Spanish, Linguistics, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), enrolling approximately 60-70 full-time graduate students from around the world, with the majority of those holding teaching assistantships. We also offer B.A.s and minors in a range of programs, including French, German, Spanish, Chinese Studies, Italian Studies, Latin American Studies, Russian Studies, and Slavic and East European Studies. Additionally, we offer minors in Foreign Literature/Culture in Translation, Japanese Studies, Arabic Studies, Linguistics, and TESOL. Our faculty is actively engaged in education abroad programs, and we have a long history of collaborating with other WVU colleges, departments, and programs.

Qualifications:

This position, which is based on a nine-month contract, requires demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching; abilities in program development and coordination; a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies/Acquisition, Spanish, or a closely related field by the time of appointment (ABDs with a clear graduation trajectory prior to the start date are welcome to apply); ability to maintain an active research program; and excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish.
