Scope of Job
The Department of Political Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley ( UTRGV ) occasionally has the need to hire One-Year Lecturer to teach in its Bachelor's program. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university or local community as needed. The Department of Political Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites applications for 1-Year Full-Time Lecturers in American Government & Politics and/or Texas Government & Politics to begin September 1, 2017. The successful candidates will teach U.S. Government & Politics and/or Texas Government & Politics, which are mandated by the State of Texas. The department anticipates hiring Full-Time Lecturers for its Edinburg campus and its Brownsville campus.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a Hispanic serving institution, opened their doors in Fall 2015. UTRGV was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 and brings together the assets and resources of UT Pan American and UT Brownsville. The new university is home to a School of Medicine which opened in 2016. UTRGV is in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, the southern tip of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles, which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.


Minimum Qualifications
The qualifications to be considered as a One-Year Lecturer are a master's degree in Political Science or a related field of study from an accredited institution.


Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
18 hours or more of graduate level course work in Political Science.


Preferred Qualification
Teaching experience is desirable, as well as ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. ABDs or Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field of study from an accredited institution.
