Scope of Job
The Department of Ob/Gyn at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine is seeking full time Academic Hospitalist/Laborists to join an exciting new program in the lower Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. Rank will be Assistant/Associate/Full Professor depending on experience and qualifications. The position be based at the Doctor's Hospital Renaissance in Edinburg which is the primary teaching site for the new UTRGV Ob/Gyn residency program. The first class of medical students at the UTRGV School of Medicine matriculated in July, 2016. The first class of Ob/Gyn residents started in July, 2015. The selected candidate will work 12 hour rotating shifts (days/nights/weekends) with primary responsibility for the teaching service. The service will have secondary roles to support the Maternal-Fetal Medicine service as well as the community physicians as requested. For the interested candidate there will be ample opportunity for involvement in scholarly activities including development of team-based perinatal care, designing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, and curriculum design for medical student and resident education in Obstetrics. Research opportunities are available for the qualified applicant.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Board certification by the American Board of Ob/Gyn, or be an active candidate within three years of residency, possess or be eligible for a Texas medical license, and qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Ob/Gyn UTRGV School of Medicine and appropriate hospital staff appointments. Demonstration of strong commitment to the education of residents and medical students is essential.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Graduation from an ACGME or AOA accredited Ob/Gyn residency program.

Preferred Qualifications
An area of clinical or administrative interest or expertise is desirable but not required.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
