Scope of Job
• Assists students in self-evaluation related to major and career exploration
• Communicates with undergraduate students via email, telephone, SSC Campus, and in-person
• Provides individual and group advising for students interested in all departmental programs
•Works collaboratively with Academic Advising Center staff in support of student initiatives (Early Alerts, etc.)
• Teaches students strategies related to academic planning and monitoring, major selection, and academic success
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge and disseminates information to students regarding University policies, degree options, and program admissions criteria
• Refers students to appropriate campus resources for additional services
• Participates in professional development programming, assessment, and mentoring opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in academic advisement and related fields
• Understands and implements federal, state, and university law and policies (i.e. FERPA )
• Assists with organizing and analyzing data from adopted technologies to monitor progress toward completion for all undergraduate students
• Provides clerical support as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
• Must be a full-time graduate student (9 hours during the Fall or Spring semester
• Able to work well with diverse groups of people
• Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills - both verbal and written
• Must have excellent organizational, attention to detail and project management skills
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision
Preferred Qualifications
• One year of office/administrative work; preferably in a college setting
• Students pursuing a graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Education, or Related Field Preferred
