Position Summary:

Under limited supervision, position acts as first point of contact for students in the Financial Aid area. Position provides information to students about financial aid functions, timelines, and eligibility; triages students to appropriate staff as needed. Provides excellent customer service and communicates effectively with internal and external customers regarding regulations, policies, and procedures as outlined by the United States Department of Education and Lone Star College.

Job Functions:

  • Works with students and parents to provide information regarding financial aid programs; directs students to appropriate staff as needed
  • Assists students with completing financial aid and needed internal paperwork as situations arise
  • Verifies accuracy of student financial aid grant, scholarship, work program or loan program application and files. Assists students and parents with the entire application and disbursement process for all federal, state and institutional aid programs utilizing electronic processes developed by the Dept. of Education
  • Assists in identifying and clarifying conflicting database matches from the particular agency/organization; resolves database mismatches including communicating with responsible agency and student
  • Assists with prep work for the Federal Student Loan Entrance and Exit Counseling Sessions or Orientations
  • Assists in preparation Federal, State, Institutional and Private reports to donor or agencies
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with standard software applications
  • Ability to organize functions to ensure compliance with due dates/deadlines and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills
  • Ability to transfer knowledge to subordinates and higher authorities
  • Ability to understand and interpret federal, state, private and institutional rules and regulations
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs
  • Ability to work with diverse student population and multitask

Salary:

$9.28/hour

Work Schedule & Conditions:
  • PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • This position requires some evenings and weekend. Must be flexible
  • Work is performed primarily in a climate controlled office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards

Qualifications

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of related work experience
