Description
The Department of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College invites applications for a tenure track position in early modern literature and culture, at either the assistant or the beginning associate professor level. Core teaching responsibilities will involve courses in early modern literature ranging from the late-fifteenth to the mid-seventeenth century. While we are interested in all subfields related to early modern literary studies, we especially encourage applicants whose research engages with contemporary critical/theoretical models, including critical race studies, postcolonial approaches, queer theory and gender studies, ecocriticism, and digital humanities.
The Dartmouth Department of English and Creative Writing ranges across all periods of literary history and has a strong creative writing program. We are committed to developing new fields and to rethinking the relationship between critical and creative practices. Our faculty members participate in research initiatives across campus, and are involved in initiatives in the digital humanities and experiential learning. We are also active in the College's many interdisciplinary programs, including the African and African American Studies Program, the Comparative Literature Program, the Native American Studies Program, the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, the Program in Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies, and the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in English Literature or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment, have significant teaching experience at the college (post-secondary) or university level, and an appropriate record of publication and professional achievement.
Dartmouth College combines a commitment to innovative scholarship with a dedication to excellent teaching. The Dartmouth student body is diverse by many measures. We are especially interested in applicants with a record of successful teaching and mentoring of students from all backgrounds (including first-generation college students, low-income students, members of racial, ethnic, and religious minorities, and members of the LGBTQ community). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to Dartmouth's undergraduate diversity initiatives in research, such as the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship. We encourage applicants to discuss relevant skills and experiences in the cover letter.
Application Instructions
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a sample of their scholarship, and three confidential letters of recommendation. Please address cover letters to Professor Alexandra Halasz and submit all material through Interfolio. Review of applications will begin October 19, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. Interviews will be held via video conference in December 2018.
