Position Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 2:30pm-11pm. In collaboration with the other Access Services student supervisor, supervises and manages the student employees at the Baker-Berry Circulation and Reserve Desk, the Sherman Art Library service desk and the Baker-Berry Information Desks. Provides all aspects of direct patron services for the Baker-Berry Access Services Department and provides general research support in collaboration with Baker-Berry Research & Instruction Services. Work closely with the other student supervisor to manage a total student workforce of approximately 85-90 students.

Minimum Experience
  • Two years of relevant library experience or the equivalent public service experience.
  • Supervisory and training experience.
Minimum Education
  • Associate's degree or the equivalent combination in education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
Student Supervisor

• Collaborates to hire, schedule, train, and supervise approximately 85-90 student employees covering multiple service points in Baker-Berry throughout the year. Holds scheduling meetings at the start of each term to set up term schedule and disseminate new information.
• Establishes a positive working environment for a diverse group of student employees utilizing communication tools; conflict management; coaching; problem-solving; and delegation.
• Selects a team of 2-3 student managers to assist with training, communication, and bi-weekly payroll.
• Develops and maintains the training for all students at the Baker-Berry service desks and the Sherman Art Library. Prepares and updates the student manual as needed.
• Maintains student timesheets and all paperwork relating to student employees supervised.
• Ensures student adherence to Library and College policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with library-wide student supervisors to set expectations, develop student training and share ideas.
• Represents the library at relevant college events related to student experience or employment. Coordinates relevant library activities and events.

Service Desks

• Performs all circulation and service functions at the Baker-Berry service desks and Sherman Art Library
• Interprets and diplomatically enforces library policies and procedures to the Dartmouth community, to outside users, and to the general public.
• Maintains and fosters good public relations with library users and the general public.

Reference & Information Desk

• Provides research assistance and instruction for library users at the Baker and Berry Information Desks and Sherman Art Library. Covers these desks as needed.

Building Supervision

• Serves as staff member responsible for Baker-Berry Library on assigned weekends, evenings, intersessions, and holidays.
• Acts as liaison between library users and Facilities Management and Safety & Security.
• Acts as troubleshooter and liaison between other library circulation units.

Other Duties

• Attends staff meetings and participates in the development and evaluation of departmental policies, goal setting, procedures, and workflow.
• Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
