General Description of Position
Under the direction of the Associate Dean or designee, the Instructional Designer instructs assists and supports faculty in development of appropriate teaching and learning strategies and applications utilizing instructional technologies in Face to face, hybrid and online credit course offerings. This includes providing consulting support to faculty in course design and redesign and developing appropriate teaching/learning applications of technologies, keeping abreast of emerging applications and instructional design theories, instructional technology applications and distance learning that ensure collaborative learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Curriculum Analysis: Apply instructional design techniques and methodologies to analyze instructional needs, design courseware, and develop course architecture to achieve desired performance.
2. Curriculum Design: Design interactive courseware, multimedia technology-driven applications, and other supporting materials to ensure pedagogically sound educational experience for Face to face, Hybrid and on-line learners. Assist with the creation of interactive tutorials for faculty, staff, and students.
3. Consulting: Consult with faculty, administrators, and instructional staff on design, development and evaluation of SCC on-line instructional programs, materials, methods, student support systems, and teaching and assessment techniques. Provide individualized faculty training in developing online teaching methodologies and using multimedia.
4. Teamwork and Communication: Works with staff, faculty and students and requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment and work well in a collegial relationship with faculty, staff and students. Provide excellent internal and external "customer service" to faculty, students and staff.
Training Lead designer of the instructional training team to help faculty develop the most effective strategies for educating online students. The training plan will focus on student learning needs, on the best uses of media technologies to support that learning, on setting priorities and benchmarks for completing course development, and examples and models of best practices in online, asynchronous instruction.
5. Coordination with the Virtual Learning team, work with programs, students services, admission and other college representatives with coordination of class scheduling, recruitment of new programs to come on-line, or offer hybrid course offerings and assist students with questions and concerns about face to face, hybrid and on-line based instruction.
6. Facilitate/Coordinate On-line Student Service Delivery Work with Student Services and Associate Dean Virtual Learning and Director of Instructional Technology to coordinate student services and distance learning functions to facilitate students off-site the ability to have access to all student service resources provided by the College.
7. Technology Evaluation and Operation Explore and evaluate new technologies, materials, and techniques for their applicability to educational uses. Assist in the collection and research of instructional technology material. Work with the Dean of Virtual Learning and Administrative Director of Virtual Learning to evaluate/select vendor products and support services.
8. Apply web based instructional software(s), a working knowledge of Moodle and/or other Learning Management Software's and/or other instructional software. Evaluation Monitor ongoing class instruction and make suggestions to instructors on how to implement change and new technology into classes to strengthen the educational experience for the student.
9. Promote/Support the Organizational Environment through Goal 9 of the Strategic Plan: Promote and support the College's organizational environment goals. Maximize operational efficiency by enhancing policies and procedures, staffing, and communication processes and practices. Enhance positive communication processes and practices, and maximize a positive and engaging organizational environment by encouraging input, reflective and transparent communication, and compassion and respect toward the views and ideas of others

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Technology, Computer Science, Education or related field.
2. One (1) year of work experience in an instructional environment which regularly required course development responsibilities.
4. Two (2) years of work experience in Web based instructional software applications.
