University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach, on site in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington State or United States Coast Guard in Honolulu, Hawaii in the Natural Science program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course:

Environmental Change and Sustainability (NSCI 362, 3 Credits)
A multidisciplinary study of the global environment and human impact on it. The goal is to apply scientific reasoning to make informed decisions about the role of human activity on global environmental sustainability. Emphasis is on the concept of sustainability as it applies to human interactions with the environment. Current scientific research is used to explore the scientific, social, and global implications of environmental issues such as global warming, population growth, energy resources, biodiversity, and the genetic modification of organisms. Discussion covers the environment as "global commons" and individual responsibility in environmental sustainability.
Required Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. Terminal degree (Ph.D, JD etc.) preferred.
  • Professional experience in a related field

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred
  • This position is specifically to teach in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington State or United States Coast Guard in Honolulu, Hawaii

  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
