The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Sibley Memorial Hospital is seeking a Clinical Associate. The Clinical Associate will be expected to spend 80% of your effort in clinical care developing an Interventional Pulmonary program at Sibley Hospital and maintain 20%, or one day, or protected time for clinical research activities. Will have the option of covering the Intensive Care Unit at Sibley for eight weekends in the year. It is anticipated that the Clinical Associate will be a key member of the multidisciplinary thoracic programming at Sibley Hospital.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Lung screening program, and developing a pulmonary nodule clinic. A clinical associate’s contract will accompany this offer. Clinical and administrative infrastructure will be provided to you primarily through Sibley Memorial Hospital and the thoracic program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Administers medical care to hospitalized patients. Participates in the performance of minor surgery. Examines and treats patients in the emergency room. Oversees the treatment of patients by resident physicians. Performs laboratory tests. Performs related work as required. Participates in training conferences and makes rounds.

Qualifications

M.D. Degree and three years of post-doctoral training (PGY-4). Licensure by State of Maryland Board of Physicians; active licensure to practice medicine in all states, districts and territories where work is to be performed, as well as current active licensure to prescribe medication (CDS, DEA), and up-to-date ACLS/BLS certification. Credentialed at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and related hospitals as necessary.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Work requires ABIM certification or ABIM eligibility. Work requires the analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems OR design relatively complex systems and programs that cross departmental/divisional lines. Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.

Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing and walking for extended period of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
