In addition to its main campus in the state's capital, UMA also serves students at its campus in Bangor (UMA Bangor) and through UMA Centers around the state. With its multiple locations and long-term expertise in online and distance learning, UMA is generally considered the university of choice for Mainers of all ages who want to attend college without uprooting their lives.

The University of Maine at Augusta welcomes applications from candidates with expertise in rhetoric, professional communication, or writing studies for a position as full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with a focus on writing and professional communication. Applications that demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas will be of particular interest: business/professional writing, cultural rhetoric, digital literacy, and writing across the curriculum. Position will start Academic Year 2019 in the Fall semester.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant humanities department that works with students on the Augusta campus as well as statewide via satellite centers and online. Duties will include a 4/4 teaching load of courses in composition, professional writing, and other courses depending on expertise. Duties of the position may also include supporting the university's early college programming.

UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs; committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning; committed to effective use of technology including distance learning; involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to appointment; and willing to provide service to the College.

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate and baccalaureate degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The English program offers general education and degree specific courses using modalities including in-person, interactive television, video conferencing, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach.

Salary: The normal hiring range is low-fifties for a tenure-track position, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers an excellent fringe-benefits package.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Terminal degree in English or related discipline (ABDs will be considered), and evidence of successful college-level teaching experience. A terminal degree is required for the awarding of tenure.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with non-traditional learners and/or first generation college students; experience teaching online or blended courses; ability to work collaboratively with faculty across the disciplines in shaping a strong and energetic writing curriculum; expertise with web authoring and design.
