Purpose of Position

The Department of World Languages and Literatures (WLL) at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Japanese, starting Fall 2020. We seek innovative candidates whose teaching and research can creatively contribute to our new Japanese major and who will be committed to the continued development of a dynamic Japanese undergraduate program.

Primary Responsibilities

Candidates must be able to teach all levels of Japanese language, culture and literature, have experience in online teaching, and be committed to engage actively in the growth of the Japanese program.

WLLfaculty teach a broad range of language and content-based courses, advise students, serve on departmental and university-wide committees, and engage in service activities in the community and the profession.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for producing scholarship/creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Japanese Studies or a closely-related field
• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese
• Strong proficiency in English
• A commitment to or experience fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level
• Evidence of active scholarship
