Job Summary
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry is currently seeking an Assistant Professor to provide expertise in the biochemistry, cell and molecular biology of glycogen metabolism and its contributions to cellular metabolism and epigenetic programming, particularly the significance of such contributions to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. The investigator will supervise and conduct a variety of biochemical, genetic and cell culture experimental studies aimed at the functional analysis-omics level data sets such as stable isotope resolved metabolomics (SIRM) and RNA-sequencing results to identify altered metabolic and signaling networks in different disease backgrounds.

The investigator will study the molecular mechanisms of glycogen metabolic enzymes and their roles in regulating signaling and metabolic networks in the physiological control of cellular differentiation , survival and death. In addition, the investigator will also be required to explore the potential therapeutic impact of targeting glycogen metabolism in treating neurodegenerative disease. Emerging research directions, such as stem cell derived 30- organoid cultures, isolated prinrnry neurons and in vivo SIRM will be explored to discover novel mechanisms and to provide potential new therapeutic targets. In addition to the research responsibilities, the investigator will be required to apply for extramural funding to support the pertinent research programs.

Specific requirements include: extensive experience in the field of cellular biochemistry and molecular genetics, with a strong emphasis on system-level metabolomics and epigenetic programming. In addition, the successful candidate should be an expert on the regulation of glycogen metabolism, stable isotope resolved metabolomics and RNAseq analysis.
