Job Description

60% Teaching Responsibilities:
  • Teach three (3) courses per semester at the undergraduate level in German Studies. These will primarily include elementary and intermediate German courses satisfying the KU language requirement and general education courses in German Studies taught in English (including online courses), and may include upper-level courses as needed by the department.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
20% Service Responsibilities:
  • Service to the Department, the College, the University, and the profession.
20% Research Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and sustain an active and productive program of research in field of specialization, including scholarly publications and presentations at research conferences.

    Position Overview

    The Department of German Studies at the University of Kansas invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in German Studies, to begin on August 18, 2020. This appointment is limited term for two years, with the option of a third year, based on performance and institutional needs. This is a full-time position with a 3:3 teaching load as well as service and research obligations (see below). Applicants are expected to have a PhD (or be ABD with the defense completed) in German Studies or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Specialization open, but preference for a focus in post-1945 literature and culture of German-speaking Europe.
