Classification Title: Postdoctoral Associate - Neonatology Wynn Lab Job Description:

The Post Doc will independently perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests, luminex preparation, experimental procedures, and data analysis related to the research. The employee will be responsible for general laboratory management. The employee may assist PI in grant and publication writing.

Experimental procedures (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell culture, Flow Cytometry, Histology). According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performs a variety of routine laboratory tests and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording, and checking results for completeness and accuracy. Suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Assist with planning specific research procedures. Develop and troubleshoot new techniques, which have been written up in research literature, that are applicable to current or planned research projects.

Animal handling: Rodent colony management, animal husbandry including breeding and maintenance of multiple transgenic mice, basic surgical procedures. Neonatal/adult mouse intraperitoneal injections, intracardiac puncture, plasma isolation, perfusion fixation (brain, lung), tissue harvesting [brain, lung (inflation fixing), gut, liver, spleen, heart].

Data management and publications (data/histology analysis, manuscript and grant writing) – Maintains records of results and methodologies; write lab protocols. Inventory specimens.

General laboratory management (ordering, equipment maintenance, records) – Maintains equipment, lab area, and supplies in a neat professional manner; Sterilize and clean glassware, disposing of specimens, media, and other materials using appropriate procedures; inventory supplies. Adequately maintain lab/lab resources to facilitate successful IACUC/EHS inspections.

Supervise and train junior lab personnel and students to assist and perform many of the routines described above. Attend courses in safety procedures for handling, storage, and disposal of bio-hazardous, flammable, corrosive, and toxic materials. Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.

Other laboratory duties as assigned.

Ph.D.
