Classification Title: Clinical Assistant Professor Job Description:
  • The Veterinarian is expected to provide preventive and clinical veterinary care to all laboratory animal species, with an emphasis on rodent species.
  • The Veterinarian is expected to contribute to the development of institutional animal care and use policies and procedures as well as internal SOPs and policies. They will also review and provide input on animal care and use protocols and participate in IACUC and regulatory inspections.
  • The individual is expected to participate in the training of personnel in the appropriate care and use of laboratory animals. Training responsibilities also include the laboratory animal medicine residency program and training of veterinary student interns/externs.
  • The Veterinarian may work closely with ACS surgical staff to provide comprehensive surgical support and post-operative care for animals receiving surgical procedures.
  • The Veterinarian is expected to work closely with and provide direction to ACS’s highly skilled certified veterinary technicians.
  • The Veterinarian may also participate in ACS contract research activities.

Minimum Requirements:
  • DVM from an AVMA accredited institution or ECFVG certificate and license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state;
  • Good computer skills with ability to maintain complex clinical vet care operating systems;
  • Excellent customer service ability with strong writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with veterinary faculty, veterinary technicians within the department and academic leaders and senior research staff throughout campus
Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred knowledge and experience also includes:

excellent computer skills and presentation experience;

working knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry;

prior experience in an academic animal research environment;

knowledge and experience in surgical and medical procedures commonly performed in biomedical animal research;

familiarity with pertinent laws, regulations and policies governing the use of lab animals

Additional desirable experience:

IACUC, teaching/training, leadership, and BSL and chemical hazards

ACLAM board certification is preferred

Candidates with a minimum of three years of experience in laboratory animal medicine are being considered.

The successful candidate must become licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Florida within one year of employment date.
