Experimental duties will focus on dissecting the role of gut microbiota in C. difficile infection. Specifically, duties will include, but not be limited to, designing and performing nucleic acids research experiments including next generation sequencing (16S rRNA sequencing, metagenomics, RNA-seq) and anaerobic cultures to understand the role of microbiome in colonization resistance. Additional duties associated with the position will include dissecting the contribution of gut microbes to C. difficile colonization and disease in animal models, performing experiments in mice and assisting in the maintenance of the lab’s animal colony.

Furthermore, the post-doctoral associate will develop novel HIV and HCV drug resistance assays using molecular techniques and next generation sequencing. The post-doctoral associate is expected to possess good written and oral English language skills in order to present research updates at weekly lab meetings, seminars and conferences as well as to assist in writing manuscripts and grants related to the project. Additional responsibilities include researching, interpreting, and critically evaluating primary literature; compiling and analysis of data; and maintaining complete, precise, and up-to-date records in laboratory notebook. Lastly, the post-doctoral associate is expected to contribute to an environment that fosters cooperation and duties will involve the occasional supervision and training of technicians, graduate students, undergraduates, and student workers, and other related duties as required.
