Job Description:

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is pleased to announce an opening for a psychiatrist to serve as the Medical Director, Consultation and Liaison Service, provide consultation and resident supervision, and also provide services in the outpatient clinic. This position is for a full time faculty member at the non-tenure accruing level of Assistant/Associate Professor. Candidates must possess excellent diagnostic skills and have a strong interest and commitment to teaching, service and research. Interest in community psychiatry is desirable. This position will report to the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Following is a general description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide and maintain a high level of quality patient and inpatient consultation services in all aspects of psychiatry.
  • Provide clinical teaching of trainees in psychiatry and participate in the educational program.
  • Responsible for excellent communication with primary care physicians.
  • Assist in marketing the Psychiatry Program to community physicians and managed care organizations.
  • Participate in monthly division meetings, administrative functions and institutional committees as requested.

The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is the largest of the three UF colleges - medicine, nursing and pharmacy - located on the approximately 110-acre UF Health Jacksonville campus. The college's 15 clinical science departments house more than 400 faculty members and 300 residents and fellows. The college offers 32 accredited graduate medical education programs. In addition to graduate medical education, clinical rotations in all the major disciplines are provided for students from the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville.

For practicing physicians, the college offers a continuing medical education program that recruits national and international speakers who are well known and respected in their fields. The campus' faculty, residents and fellows are active in clinical research. Residents and fellows regularly present their findings at locations across the country and publish their projects in well-known publications.

At 37 clinical sites throughout Northeast Florida, UF physicians tally more than 600,000 outpatient visits and more than 34,000 inpatient admissions annually.

Additionally, located in North Jacksonville is UF Health North - a state-of-the-art outpatient medical complex with a 24/7 full-service emergency room, outpatient surgery, occupational medicine, a birth center, advanced imaging and other diagnostic services. A 160,000 square-foot, 92-bed inpatient tower is currently under construction adjacent to the existing medical office building. Once completed in mid-2017, UF Health North will be the only hospital in North Jacksonville, providing state-of-the-art medical services for residents of northern Duval County, Nassau County and Southeast Georgia.

Advertised Salary:

Salary and academic appointment commensurate with experience and training.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must possess a MD degree or equivalent and be qualified for an unrestricted license in Florida. Successful candidates must also be board eligible/board certified in adult psychiatry. Must possess excellent diagnostic skills and have a strong interest and commitment to teaching, service and research.
