Job Description:

The College of Education at the University of Florida is searching for an advanced Assistant/Associate faculty member to contribute to the science of using virtual environments to promote and assess learning. More specifically, we seek an individual with strong research skills to increase the understanding of how virtual environments and technology-assisted instruction can be utilized to improve decision-making skills and performance, and to develop new methodological pathways for assessing professional expertise. This 9-month, tenure-track position is part of UF's preeminence initiative, a state-supported, campus-wide initiative to transform the state's flagship institution into a world-class research university.

The ideal candidate would be someone who conducts research on:

· how people build expert knowledge and skills, with an emphasis on adult learners in higher education and professional areas (e.g., teaching, medicine, nursing)

· how virtual environments and technology can be used to promote the acquisition of elite-level performance, effective problem solving and successful transfer to authentic settings

· how performance within virtual environments and technology can be used to assess learning and evaluate the effectiveness of training

Individuals from a range of backgrounds, including the education/learning sciences, assessment, human-computer interaction, and computer science are encouraged to apply. Prior experience or an interest in assessing teacher learning is desirable.

The candidate will be expected to have a record of or strong potential for obtaining external funding as well as engaging in collaborative research, and be able to contribute to an established team of UF scholars working in education, computer science, nursing and medicine.

The College of Education has faculty who are internationally recognized experts for their work in promoting effective teaching and learning, and in the use of technology for instruction. Additional strength in the virtual learning space would enhance an already highly productive faculty. Other college and campus collaboration resources include: the Online Learning Institute; the #1 ranked online graduate education program in the nation; UF's Digital Worlds Institute, a hub for the development of innovative virtual environments for education and training; the Informatics Institute, and HiPerGator 2, the third fastest university supercomputer in the country. UF's Office of Technology Transfer is ranked among the top universities for startup launches and licensing (e.g., ShadowHealth that enhances the communications skills of medical professionals through virtual simulations).
