Job Description:

The primary responsibility is the characterization and validation of chemical compounds hits identified from throughput screens ongoing for lysosomal storage diseases (e.g. metachromatic leukodystrophy and Krabbe disease). The postdoc will work on developing a robust and innovative cell-based HTS assay. These are small molecule that are FDA-approved and drug-like compounds, which will require the development of counterscreening and secondary assays. Basic knowledge on developing induced-progenitor cells as induced-neural cells from primary cells are also expected.

Advertised Salary: Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Minimum Requirements: The post-doctoral researcher should have completed a PhD and/or MD degree (PhD in the field of biomedical sciences). Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the following areas:

Basic molecular biology techniques including but not limited to molecular cloning, transfection, infection, RNA isolation, and Northern blotting

Perform tissue culture procedures

Analysts, GraphPad, Excel, PubChem, PDB, ImageJ, Volocity and ZEN 2009 Edition, and familiar with concepts of parametric and non-parametric statistics

Lipids and proteomic techniques including lipid extraction and separation, subcellular fractionation methods, immunoprecipitation, immunoblots, pulse-chase assays, confocal and live cell microscopy, immunofluorescence assays, etc.

Present and write peer-review articles, progress reports and prepare presentations as oral or poster in scientific meetings.

The post-doctoral researcher will interact with several collaborators across departments and outside academic, industry and government institutions. In addition, the postodoc will have the opportunity to work and interact with different leading researchers and trainees from the IGM and present their work at national and international conferences.
