Job Description: This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 100% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station), available in the Horticultural Sciences Department, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Duties will include conducting research in plant molecular biology and physiology using a variety of approaches. Independent opportunities for research and funding will be possible. Work will be performed in a number of species, including strawberry fruits and Arabidopsis. Our laboratory investigates gene function in strawberry fruits, especially as relevant to flavors and aromas. We also are interested in the role of light in control of post-harvest fruit quality in a number of important horticultural crops. The faculty member may participate actively in undergraduate education and graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing the results with his/her graduate students. The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support his/her program. The faculty member will engage in Extension activities in his or her program area.

Minimum Requirements: A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in genomics, molecular biology, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability. Candidates must have strong writing ability and the desire to participate in publication and grant preparation. A demonstrated record of scholarly publication and communication is a prerequisite for this position. Candidates must be willing to work with and assist in leading a team of students, postdocs and visiting scientists.

Preferred Qualifications: Bioinformatics are preferred, and experience in tissue culture also will be a strong asset for any applicant. Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
