Job Description: The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Florida College of Medicine is recruiting a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor. The candidate must have an established record of collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications related to neurophysiology of learning and memory. Successful applicants must have experience with acquisition and analysis of high-density single-unit electrophysiological recordings from awake-behaving rats. Experience performing in vivo electrophysiological recordings in aged rats is strongly preferred. Duties will also include intracranial rodent surgeries and the design and implementation of behavioral/cognitive studies which will be integrated with electrophysiology. The applicant should be experienced in organization, statistical analysis and presentation of behavioral and electrophysiological data. In particular, the successful applicant will be expected to implement standard approaches as well as to develop new approaches for analysis of high density electrophysiological recordings. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in experimental design and should have the ability to perform independent research tasks. Other duties include writing and modifying rodent IACUC protocols. Participation in the Department of Neuroscience educational and teaching program is required and the successful applicant will be expected to mentor graduate students and undergraduate researchers. Although most of the work will be performed during normal business hours, experimental demands may necessitate working at other hours and/or on weekends.

Minimum Requirements: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in an appropriate area of specialization and must have three or more years of postdoctoral experience using single-unit electrophysiological approaches in behaving animals. Excellent programming and quantitative skills with experience in MatLAB is required. A strong publication record and record of independent funding is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships and the ability to develop and submit research proposals.
