Job Description: The Department of Public Relations in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida seeks applications for a lecturer position to begin August 2014. This is a non-tenure-accruing nine month renewable contract. The appointment is for a nine-month contract, but teaching and the coordination of professional internships during the summer may be available. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with similar nine-month academic positions.

The successful candidate shall teach one public relations visual communication course and multiple lab sections per semester. The lecturer shall organize the courses, present lectures, supervise lab sections, and be available to students for course and career guidance. The successful candidate should also be able to teach strategies, principles and other courses in public relations, selected from a wide range of offerings or special offerings developed by the lecturer in consultation with the faculty.

The candidate selected shall maintain professional involvement to keep up with developments and advancements of the profession and its practices. The person hired shall contribute to the Department's relationship with members of the professional community. In addition, the lecturer shall advise the Alpha Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), including the supervision of major Chapter functions such as the student-run agency Alpha PRoductions. The candidate selected shall engage in governance and other service activities at the Department and College levels.

Minimum Requirements: A successful candidate shall possess an earned master's degree in public relations, communication, business administration, or other relevant fields.

Applicants must have relevant teaching experience in visual communication and some professional experience.

Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in visual communications and proficiency in relevant computer software and online tools.

Preferred Qualifications: A record of excellence in teaching, working productively and effectively in and contributing to a diverse collegial environment and a diverse student body, plus skills or experience that will enable the Department and College to achieve their strategic goals.
