Job Description
This position is also known internally as "Career Coach". It acts as a liaison with the appropriate College and University department(s) in order to assist with the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures as it relates to academic and professional development advising of students.
The position will facilitate student application of the Career Professionalism Modules by meeting with assigned students, providing direction and resources, and monitoring progress. This Includes providing advice and feedback on career search tools such as assessments, career plan, resume, interviewing, networking, job expo activities, internships, etc.
The position will facilitate promotion of targeted internship and career postings from Handshake, Career Services events (career expos, workshops, site visits, etc.), Experiential Learning, and Employer Connectivity events to assigned students.
The position will facilitate incoming requests from employers for referrals to student organizations, academic liaisons, and specified sets of students in a way that ensures the privacy of personal student information.
The position will assist as necessary with employer development activities.
The position assists students with course registration when necessary.
The position is responsible for executing FERPA and University rules and regulations of student privacy when working with students.
The position is responsible for degree audit and certification processes through utilization of software such as: PeopleSoft and MyKnight Star. The position is responsible for level 1 degree certification for the major assigned to the position and other majors as needed. In addition, the position is responsible for level 2 degree certification of audits for which the position did not perform level 1 certification.
The position is responsible for preparing and conducting workshops and presentations on behalf of the College in various activities including but not limited to Open House, Orientation, Probation and Lack of Progress Workshops, Major Fairs, and in-classroom presentations on various advising topics.
The position is responsible for processing petitions and PeopleSoft audit exceptions for the College and will oversee the training of other advisors in this process as needed.
The position will be expected to facilitate student advisory sessions per week and more during peak times. The position schedules will include limited evening "drop-in" times as well as occasional weekends and travel to regional campuses as scheduled. The position will participate in regular meetings with Chairs and Faculty from their assigned departments to provide information on advising activities.
The position is responsible for the coordination of a College intervention program, the Lack of Progress Policy, which targets an at-risk student population through the early identification of students in distress in efforts to improve retention. This includes the compilation and dissemination of Lack of Progress data in a timely manner, as well as the tracking and enforcement associated with this program.
The position is responsible for the training and supervision of the student assistant staff, and maintaining the COBA Pass appointment system in a manner that ensures the efficient operation of the student check-in process for the office.
All other duties as assigned with the job scope.


Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

Preference will be given to individuals with previous experience that demonstrates excellent interpersonal coaching and professional development skills, and the ability to effectively work within a team environment. Additional preferences include previous experience in professional development, employment placement, and coaching activities such as job search strategies, resume critiquing, and mock interviewing. Preferred candidates will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with fellow staff members, faculty, and employer organizations. Experience in staffing and human resource recruiting is beneficial. Other desirable qualifications include previous industry experience in areas related to degree programs offered by the college.
