The Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a visiting assistant professor appointment specializing in Medical Sociology. The position is a one-year position, beginning in August 2018.

The breadth of programs offered in the College of Arts and Sciences provides the traditional strengths of a liberal arts education, with a focus on cultivating the intellectual and practical skills that students need for their personal and professional lives. The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate majors in behavioral neuroscience, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, economics, English, game design and development, gerontology, history, independent majors, interdisciplinary studies, law in society, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish language and literature, and theater.

In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences has 31 undergraduate minors, a combined 4 + 1 BS in Biology/MS in molecular and cell biology program, and a master of science in molecular and cell biology program.

Responsibilities

  • Specialize in Medical Sociology
  • Teach courses such as Illness and Disability, Sociology of Mental Illness, Death, Grief and Bereavement, and others in the Sociology program as needed. Additional expertise in Inequality is preferred. The teaching load is 4/4.
  • Other departmental duties as assigned by the chairperson


Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

  • C andidates must be ABD or possess a Ph.D. in Sociology by time of appointment
  • Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness in Sociology is required
  • All candidates must provide evidence of a strong record of effective teaching
  • Commitment to diversity and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students and faculty
