Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College ( SCC ) is a multi-campus urban college that consists of a 70-acre main campus across from William Land Park located in the heart of the Sacramento metropolitan area. The college also maintains two educational centers, one in Davis on the campus of the University of California, Davis, and one in West Sacramento located adjacent to the public library, community center, and civic center. The college is a vibrant teaching and learning center with approximately 23,000 day and evening students and is now recognized as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution ( AANAPISI ).

SCC is a place of rich tradition and history, with a contemporary vitality and diversity that provides technologically updated classrooms and offers a variety of class schedules to meet student needs. SCC awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees as well as Associate Degrees for Transfer, which guarantee transfer into the California State University system.

The college offers Career Technical Education certificates and degrees, transfer credit for students who desire to continue their education at a four-year college or university, and instruction in basic skills such English, English as second language, and mathematics.

Position Summary

Under general supervision of assigned manager/supervisor, assists faculty by working with students individually or in groups in the improvement of academic knowledge and technical skill, and does related work as required. This position is located in the Learning Resource Center - Tutorial Center with an emphasis on tutoring mathematics.

Assignment Responsibilities

• Assists instructors by tutoring students individually and in groups in concept understanding and skills acquisition in a subject area such as mathematics, English, foreign languages, and business and computer applications.
• Screens, hires, trains, and oversees student workers, including scheduling and assigning tutors.
• Confers with instructor on student progress, lab procedures, and instructional methods.
• Assists in maintaining a collection of resource materials.
• Sets up and operates audiovisual equipment; maintains and monitors office equipment in the lab.
• Maintains student attendance and related records, and does payroll forms.
• Assists in training students in the use of instructional equipment and appropriate learning methods and procedures.
• Clarifies instructors' assignments.
• Assists students with computers and software applications.
• Assists with lab related materials, budgets, and purchasing.
• Performs related duties as required.

Special Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE : One year tutoring, instructional, or work experience related to one or more of the subject areas to which the position is assigned.

EDUCATION : Completion of an Associate's Degree or 60 semester units (90 quarter units) with an emphasis in one or more of the subject areas to which the position is assigned.

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)
