Definition

DEFINITION:
Under direction, to plan, supervise, organize, inspect, and evaluate the work of custodial personnel involved in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and facilities; to participate in custodial work; to prepare and maintain related records and reports and perform related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
a. Plan, organize, coordinate, inspect, and supervise the work of the custodial staff; evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
b. Assign regular work schedules to assure the cleanliness and safe conditions of buildings; inspect the cleanliness of classrooms, offices, restrooms, and other facilities to assure the use of proper and efficient methods and compliance with quality standards.
c. Provide training to staff in the proper and efficient performance of custodial duties and to give instructions to assure proper care and use of equipment and materials.
d. Prepare, maintain and review various budgets, purchase orders, and reports related to custodial operations including time cards.
e. Communicate with the Director concerning custodial operations and activities, and to resolve custodial problems involving care and cleaning.
f. Maintain and issue custodial supplies; requisition supplies; requisition supplies and parts; initiate and prepare service requests for needed service or repair.
g. Coordinate with maintenance on special events requiring assistance in set up and break downs.
h. Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Physical Demands

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
1.Proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work.
2. Requirements of maintaining buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
3. Principles and practices of supervision and training.
4. Modern cleaning methods including basic method of cleaning and preserving floors, blackboards, carpets, furniture, walls, and fixtures.
5. Record keeping techniques.
6.Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

Ability to:
 7.Use and provide training to custodial staff to assure proper care and methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the custodial trade.
8. Plan, organize, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of custodians involved in the cleaning and maintenance of college buildings and facilities.
9. Train, supervise and evaluate personnel.
10. Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order.
11.Maintain records and prepare reports.
12. Observe and report the need for maintenance and repairs.
13.Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with others.

Education and Experience:

14. Completion of college-level course work or training in job related areas.

15.Five years of increasing responsible experience in custodial work, including three years experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

16. Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the required qualifications.

 

Conditions of Employment

There is an immediate need for temporary support. The current need is at Orange Coast College during Graveyard Shift from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am.  
Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Short term/temporary assignments do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked, and are limited to 28 hours per week or 160 days per fiscal year. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the Coordinator of the program. 

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. We accept applications all year long. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. (Applications will remain in the pool for one year.)
