California State University Sacramento is a Hispanic serving institution which is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in the institutional pursuit of academic excellence. The rapidly growing Department of Women’s Studies, which is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, has the honor of being one of the earliest such programs in the country. It has hosted such distinguished faculty members as Sally Roesch Wagner and Kate Millet. We have four full-time faculty members and around 75 majors. The interdisciplinary curriculum focuses on women, gender, and sexuality in relation to economic class, racism, ethnocentrism, capitalism, globalization and militarism. The department offers a B.S. in Women’s Studies, a minor in Women’s Studies, and a new interdisciplinary minor in LGBTQ Studies. We are looking for a new faculty who has an interdisciplinary background in the social sciences to compliment the department’s existing strengths in the humanities.

Essential Duties

- Teach a wide range of courses in Women’s Studies, such as Introduction to Women’s Studies, Introduction to the Women’s Movement, Violence against Women, Women’s Global Issues, Feminist Methodologies, and Seminar in Feminist Theory.
- Propose and teach introductory, mid-level and advanced undergraduate courses in area of expertise.
- Supervise students in independent study and fieldwork courses.
- Engage in research and scholarship.
- Engage in Service to the College and University
- Engage in community service.
- Involve in student advising and recruitment of majors.
- Work as an integral member of the Department, actively contributing to curriculum and department building.

Appointment Specifics

This is a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning with the Fall 2020 semester. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and professional experience.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Women’s and Gender Studies or Ph.D. in other social science disciplines such as Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography or Political Science with research focus on Women’s and Gender issues. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree by January 2021.
- Specialization in Latinx Feminisms.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Women’s Studies discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in feminism from intersectional and global perspectives.
- Ability to propose and teach new courses in area of expertise.
- Ability to conduct independent research.
- Ability to articulate an interdisciplinary approach to Women’s Studies.

Preferred Qualifications

- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: immigration, citizenship, border studies, public policy, identity politics, race & gender politics, indigenous studies, environmental justice, gender-based violence, and transnational feminist studies.
- Teaching experience in a Women’s Studies department using intersectional feminist frameworks.
- Teaching that reflects an interdisciplinary approach to Women’s Studies.
- Experience integrating issues of diversity in curriculum.
- Ability to propose and teach introductory, breadth and advanced undergraduate courses in some of the following areas: Latinx feminisms, immigration, border studies and Feminist Methods.
- Ability to teach large as well as small size classes.
- Experience or interest in curriculum design.
- Potential or proven track-record as a researcher.
- Experience or interest in community outreach.
- Experience communicating effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse community
- Innovative teaching and ability to enhance instruction through use of information technology
