Open Rank Position in Mathematics Education


The Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum at the University of Missouri (MU) seeks a faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank committed to improving mathematics education locally and nationally.


The successfulcandidatewillwork withinternationallyrecognized,award-winningfaculty intheMU mathematics education group( program is home to eight tenure-track mathematics education faculty members (three with administrative assignments).


The MU mathematics education program has a large and well-respected doctoral program that prepares the next generation of mathematics teacher educators and educational researchers. Its faculty members are active researchers addressing a range of important questions (see website for information on current research projects). They direct externally-funded research, development, and service grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. At the undergraduate level, preservice teachers at MU earn certification in elementary education (Grades 1-6), middle grades mathematics (grades 5-9), and secondary mathematics (9-12). The MU alternative certification program, SMAR2T, attracts recent graduates and career changers for preparation as middle and/or secondary mathematics teachers. A new online masters degree in mathematics education is under development and will be launched in spring 2015.


Since 1995 the faculty have secured over $40 million in external funding to support research, teaching, and service projects. The program is recognized as one of top ten programs in the country based on faculty productivity and doctoral program size and reputation.

  • Establish/continue a productive research program in mathematics education that results in high quality scholarly publications and products;
  • Secure (or continue a record of) external funding for research, development, and service projects;
  • Teach mathematics pedagogy courses at the undergraduate and master levels as well as core courses and seminars in the Ph.D. program;
  • Advise, supervise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Contribute to a vibrant mathematics education program that is rising in stature and productivity.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in mathematics education or a related field;



Salary: Competitive and commensurate with rank, experience, and qualifications.


Appointment: Tenure-track, nine-month appointment beginning August 15, 2015.
