The Office of the Vice President for Research at Iowa State University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Associate Vice President for Research.
The Associate Vice President for Research will lead campus-wide efforts to assure the responsible conduct of research in accordance with the highest standards of professional practice in compliance with federal regulations and university policy. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Research (VPR), the position will serve as ISU's Research Integrity Officer and will lead a campus-wide program of training for investigators in the responsible conduct of research. The position will assist the VPR in the oversight of the Office for Responsible Research, the Office of Laboratory Animal Resources, and the Attending Veterinarian, and work with these units and federal agencies to help ease the federal regulatory burden.
The successful candidate will possess proven leadership and management skills; the ability to build effective working relationships and communicate well with diverse faculty and staff in every college and discipline across campus; the ability to research issues on policy and law and take appropriate action on policy matters and noncompliance problems; the ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and to manage multiple priorities; and the ability to anticipate the needs of internal and external stakeholders and deliver solutions.
Required qualifications a Ph.D. and six years of experience related to this position.
Preferred qualifications include
Ph.D. in the area of science and/or engineering
Juris Doctorate or other legal training or experience
Substantive experience in independent research
Experience as a research integrity officer at an institution with federally sponsored projects
Experience overseeing research regulatory compliance in a university setting
Experience which demonstrates an understanding of federal regulations governing research involving human subjects, animals, biohazards, export control and conflicts of interest
Experience which demonstrates leadership and management skills
Experience developing and delivering training programs in the responsible conduct of research
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
