Executive Director, Office of Sponsored Projects

Yale University seeks an individual with exceptional leadership, operational, and interpersonal skills to join the team as Executive Director, Office of Sponsored Projects. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic operations of the Office of Sponsored Projects and leads the team in a customer-focused, strategic and sustainable manner.
 Yale University (www.yale.edu), one of the worlds preeminent research universities, conducts nearly $700 million of sponsored research each year, of which nearly 80% occurs through its Medical School, the remainder on its Central Campus.  Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale is within easy reach of a variety of settings.  New York City is only 90 minutes away by car or train. 

 The Executive Director will oversee a seamless, efficient, and transparent support infrastructure that fully supports the research mission of the University.  In this capacity, he or she will supervise the Office of Sponsored Projects, which includes both pre-award and post-award financial operations, and will lead a staff of approximately 75 FTEs.

 The successful candidate must have strong analytical, organizational and leadership skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills.  He or she must also have the demonstrated ability to foster a culture of customer service, professionalism, and proficiency; an inclusive and engaging approach with a wide range of individuals and groups across all levels of a large organization., including a collaborative style with research administration, faculty members, department administrators, and management teams; and the ability to be proactive in resolving potential areas of concern or conflict.

 A Bachelors degree in biomedical science, a relevant field of law, or public policy or other relevant degree required (an advanced degree M.B.A., Ph.D., J.D., CPA would be advantageous) and at least ten years progressive management experience in a large, complex research environment (preferably academic); or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
