Product Design: The University of Georgia, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors. Assistant Professor of Product Design and Development. Position: Assistant Professor of Product Design and Development, Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences (9 months, tenure-track appointment). Anticipated start date: August 2015. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Apparel and Textiles or related field is required. Responsibilities: Research, Instruction (4 classes per year) and Service. The candidate should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate classes and direct graduate research. Potential for research scholarship must be demonstrated and obtaining external funding in support of research or teaching is expected. The candidate will be involved in the further development of innovative courses for the undergraduate emphasis in Product Development and Design. The successful applicant is required to teach and develop innovative courses, including courses for online delivery in two or more of the following areas: apparel design, garment construction, product development, and/or creativity and innovation. Preferred qualities and skills include but are not limited to: Practice in product design, development and/or industry experience; prior teaching experience at the university level; familiarity with industry specific software and cutting-edge technological applications for product development and/or apparel design. The applicant is expected to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations with University of Georgia faculty and industry. The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors is a growing unit of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia. The department has 15 faculty, 250 undergraduates majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Furnishings and Interiors, and 19 graduate students. The department is a member of the National Retail Federation and endorsed by the American Apparel and Footwear Association. The Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation, a board of industry professionals, provides guidance to the curriculum and scholarships for students. The graduate programs lead to a Master of Science in Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors and a Ph.D. in Polymer, Fibers, and Textile Sciences and Ph.D. emphasis in International Merchandising.
