The School of Teacher Education in the College of Education at Florida State University invites applications from candidates for a tenure-track position in Science or Engineering Education, to join a faculty committed to interdisciplinary approaches to undergraduate science and mathematics teacher preparation. Responsibilities include: engaging in a well-defined scholarship agenda focused on issues of equitable STEM teaching and learning in secondary settings and beyond; teaching graduate courses and mentoring doctoral students in the new science education major under the Curriculum and Instruction graduate program; teaching undergraduate courses in science and mathematics education in the FSU-Teach program (including courses focused on interdisciplinary science and mathematics teaching) (visit http://fsu-teach.fsu.edu); working with FSU-Teach faculty and staff to advertise and maintain the undergraduate program; serving on committees at the department, college, and university levels; and, working collaboratively on research projects with colleagues and students from the Colleges of Education, Arts & Sciences, Engineering and those in K-12 settings. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing research, initiate new research projects, and work with the Center for Education Research in Mathematics, Engineering, and Science (CERMES) to apply for external funding to support new projects (visit http://cermes.coe.fsu.edu). Candidates at the associate professor level may be eligible for consideration for the directorship of CERMES. Candidates must have a commitment to partnerships involving interdisciplinary science and mathematics teacher education, excellence in teaching, and continued excellence in scholarly activity.
Minimum qualifications include: Earned doctorate in Science or Engineering Education, (or a related field with a graduate science or engineering component); a record of excellent scholarship (recent publications in peer reviewed journals, recent presentations at national or international conferences, recent successful work on an externally funded project); evidence of accomplishment in teaching science or science education courses; and evidence of collaborative work in STEM setting.
Strongly preferred: Experience seeking external funding and assisting others in conceptualizing research projects; extensive preparation in graduate science; experience teaching science or engineering at the K-16 levels; experience teaching interdisciplinary science or mathematics teacher education courses.
This is a nine-month, tenure earning position at the assistant or associate professor rank, with possible summer employment. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2015. The salary is negotiable.
