The Department of Performance Studies at Texas A&M University, College Station seeks a tenured or tenure-track professor of performance theory and practice. Candidates will have a research program in performance studies with an emphasis in performance praxis (dramaturgy, directing, movement/dance, etc.). We seek candidates with a deep commitment to merging performance theory and practice as well as knowledge of theatre/performance history, contemporary performance praxis, and interdisciplinary approaches to performance research. Applicants whose work extends beyond the United States are encouraged to apply.
Areas of focus may include activist performance, experimental performance, community-based performance, devised performance, performance history, or performance theory. Standard teaching load is 2/2 with high research expectations and contributions to the development of the Departments new B.A. in Performance Studies.
Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank will have a PhD in Theatre or Performance Studies and an established program of practice and research that clearly demonstrates potential for further research excellence. Applicants at the Associate rank will have a PhD in Theatre or Performance Studies and a record of nationally prominent scholarship and/or creative work that bridges theory and practice. Appointment at the rank of Full Professor may be possible for applicants with a PhD in Theatre or Performance Studies and an exceptional record of nationally and internationally prominent research and/or creative work across theory and practice. MFA in Theatre welcome in addition to PhD at all ranks. Applicants at the rank of Associate or Full Professor must demonstrate a record meriting tenure at a research university that has a Carnegie
classification of RU/VH and is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU).

The Department of Performance Studies, one of twelve academic departments in the College of Liberal Arts, is currently composed of two undergraduate degree programs, one in theatre and one in music, and a master's program in performance studies; we anticipate creating a B.A. program in Performance Studies.
