Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Research experience studying higher education.
Formal training AND at least two years experience conducting mixed methods research.
Experience presenting research to both practitioner and policy audiences.
Strong track record in securing extramural funding.

Experience working directly with colleges and universities on research; public institutions preferred.
Experience overseeing the work of graduate and undergraduate students.

Principal duties:

The Wisconsin HOPE Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a translational research laboratory created in 2013 by a founding gift from the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation. Its goal is to improve equitable outcomes in postsecondary education.

The senior researcher will work under the founding and executive directors to lead mixed methods research efforts within the Lab, as well as provide guidance on the organization, cleaning, quality control, and coordination of the overall project database. This position will also oversee the research staff and provide grant writing assistance.


Lead mixed methods research efforts within the Lab, including the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of quantitative and qualitative results.
Recruit study participants for research projects.
Prepare reports for study partners, and publications for peer-reviewed journals.
Deliver presentations and seminars at national meetings and conferences.
Manage research staff and daily research operations within the Lab.
Implement and enforce proper data collection policies and procedures, as well as data quality standards.
Provide methods training to reseach staff and graduate research assitants.
Collaborate with the executive director in grant writing and other fundraising efforts.
