Reports to the Department of Facilities Planning; oversees all aspects of the exterior campus environment through planning, design, construction and maintenance of the campus landscape; directs planning and technical services for the campus exterior environment; serves as principal landscape architect for campus; works with the Physical Plant staff to ensure a clean, visually appealing, safe, sustainable and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors; leads, develops, plans, and implements the long-range campus landscape master plans; plans and organizes landscape development including administration and coordination of programs and operations pertaining to landscaping and site planning of University grounds, streets, sidewalks, bikeways, landscaped areas, athletic and recreation fields, parking lots, prairies, wetlands, and related areas; and works closely and consults with Physical Plant maintenance staff and assists in the planning of maintenance operations.


Bachelors degree in landscape architecture or related field plus at least two years of university facility, city planning, construction or related experience required. Professional licensure in landscape architecture in the state of Iowa or the ability to acquire one within 12 months of start date also required.  Masters degree preferred.  Extensive knowledge and understanding of campus planning, professional grounds management and horticulture practices preferred. Criminal and other relevant background checks required.
