Mathematics: Preceptor in Mathematics Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Mathematics. Position Description: The Department of Mathematics seeks applications for a preceptor in Mathematics. The appointment is expected to begin on July 2015. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching two courses each semester as well as doing a substantial amount of administrative and mentoring work. Preceptors work side by side with senior faculty on teaching, developing, and supporting sections of entry-level courses through multivariable calculus and linear algebra. The position is for an initial appointment of three years, renewable on a yearly basis for up to six years, contingent upon performance, enrollments, and curricular need. Basic Qualifications: The successful applicant should have an advanced degree in mathematics and experience teaching mathematics at the undergraduate level. Additional Qualifications: Applicants must have a strong background in advanced mathematics, preferably including a doctorate, and a sophisticated understanding of undergraduate teaching, learning, and curricular issues generally. We are especially interested in candidates with documented expertise in the applications of mathematics to other disciplines and in the development of curriculum in these areas. Other essential qualities include initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work well on a team.
