Program Director, Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology Program Director will provide the vision and leadership required to support and enhance the mission of the Surgical Technology Program. Primary administrative responsibilities include program development/management, continuous review, planning, budget administration, general effectiveness of the program, accreditation, and providing supervision and mentoring to part time faculty. Instructional responsibilities require a broad-based knowledge of the surgical technology field of study and surgical technology in the health industry. The Program Director is a member of the full-time faculty and reports to the Division Chair of Health Sciences.

The minimum educational and certification requirements are Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, Bachelor's degree in a Health Sciences or Related Health Sciences field of study from a regionally accredited college/university, (Master's degree in a Health Related field of study from a regionally accredited college/university preferred), and CPR-basic provider level.

The minimum professional experience requirements are five (5) years relevant scrubs experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years, post-secondary teaching and/or industry training experience in Surgical Technology curriculum in any of the teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars, management experience in either an academic post-secondary institution or industry setting, to include employee supervision. In addition, experience in Surgical Technology accreditation procedures, experience with assessment of student learning outcomes, and experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems are preferred.
