Reporting to the Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, the incumbent is part of the School's team that supports recruiting, communications, and admissions of students for six programs. Duties include reading, evaluating and summarizing applications for admission, serving on several admissions committees, representing the school's mission and achievements to diverse audiences, engaging alumni in recruiting, traveling to joint recruiting events with other professional schools, meeting with prospective and admitted students, and assisting with yield activities. The incumbent produces and oversees web, social media and other communications that engage students, faculty, staff, alumni and other Columbia community members to support the school's overall admissions and recruitment goals. Assists the Executive Director in the selection of students for the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.


Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a strong, engaging presence and consistent voice for the school on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Digg, StumbleUpon, Flickr, and other social media sites, and generate reports on social media activity.

Create content and manage the Admissions Blog.

Work closely with the Executive Director to strategically plan social media campaigns and identify new social media vehicles and other digital communication targeting vital audiences. Actively maintain the various outlets on behalf of the Admissions Office.

Attend university events, take campus photography, write about events and share via social media; maintain an online events calendar.

Create content and manage and edit the website; provide web content updates for the admissions and financial aid pages.

Enterprise and draft thoughtful, well told stories about SIPA programs and people; work closely with the school's alumni relations, career services and other offices to explore ways to enhance social media outreach; use creative storytelling skills to enterprise, shoot, and edit compelling videos and photo essays on SIPA program and people; liaise with the school's Office of Communication and External Relations on the same.

Serve as point person for emergency alerts distributed via social media.

Assist with planning and executing an annual calendar of Admissions events, including admissions projects, college fairs, school visits, and other such opportunities; attend events as needed and oversee assigned special events.

Read, evaluate and summarize applications for admission; serve on several admissions committees.

Design and implement recruitment efforts that represent SIPA's mission to reach and recruit the best and the brightest students.

Perform related duties and special projects as directed.


Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Must have a minimum of three years of related professional experience such as in marketing or public relations.

Strong writing, editing and verbal communications skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, etc., and experience with web content management systems. Specific experience in working with and developing creative content and a thorough understanding of how to utilize social media sites for marketing purposes. Verifiable track record of social media campaign development and performance analysis. Experience in social media monitoring tools, versed on industry trends and innovations. Must be detailed-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills as well as a creative thinker. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, HTML coding, JavaScript, W3C standards, social media/web best practices and digital photography is vital. Must be able to relate positively to people with a variety of interests, backgrounds, and points of view by using tact, diplomacy, and discretion. Must have the ability to exercise good judgment while working collegially with faculty, students, and staff in a high pressure, deadline driven challenging environment. Excellent people skills, resourcefulness, initiative, and motivation required.


Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications or related area. Master's degree preferred. Professional work experience in higher education a plus.
