Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: January 15, 2015

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach two Spanish courses per semester at the WIU Quad Cities Riverfront Campus in Moline, working with students who are minoring in Spanish, completing a major in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, taking Spanish as an elective or to fulfill General Education requirements.

RANK & SALARY: Instructor. This is a four-month, part-time appointment; successful candidate will be hired on a 58.33% basis of full-time salary. 

 

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. or ABD in Spanish. Demonstrated teaching excellence in Spanish language classes. Ability to teach elementary and intermediate Spanish language, Introduction to Hispanic Literature, Spanish Composition, Spanish Conversation, and Spanish for Heritage Speakers.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Spanish

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures now offers a minor in Spanish at the Quad Cities Campus in Moline. At the Macomb campus, the department offers a major in Foreign Languages and Cultures with options in French, German, and Spanish, a major in Spanish Teacher Education, and majors in French Teacher Education. Two faculty-led study abroad programs are available to students from both campuses: WISE-Spain and WISE-Costa Rica.

WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 10,003): A traditional, residential four-year campus with select graduate programs, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,204): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
