New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks an experienced technical professional, skilled in interfacing with multiple stakeholders, who will design and develop visually rich information technology tools associated with a federal grant and the start-up of a new entity, New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII). NJII is a New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the states science and technology university to challenges identified by industry partners in collaboration with government and other universities.
The Technical Project Manager (TPM) will serve as technical project lead (TPL) to coordinate product development for NJ MarketShift. NJ MarketShift is a cutting-edge Department of Defense-funded (DoD) program focused on broadening markets, strengthening innovation, and developing new enterprises within New Jerseys aerospace and defense (A&D) supply chain. The TPM will also provide technical project management capabilities to NJIIs other programs, including its innovation labs and enterprise, cluster, and economic development programs, serving similar responsibilities as those outlined above for the NJ MarketShift role.
Work with information technology contractors and NJIT faculty members to develop a set of visualization tools and a web platform. Foster a team approach and represent NJIIs (& NJITs) interests in the technical tasks and project development central to NJ MarketShift. Work with team members to translate user group needs into specific technical requirements, interface with NJIT faculty to integrate specialized expertise into tool development, and serve as liaison with IT contractors to structure the delivery of requirements and bring expertise into NJ MarketShifts web-based tools.
Develop overall program architecture for the visualization and web-crawler tools. Translate and manage delivery of requirements by technical partners, contractors, and NJIT faculty. Work across the project and technical teams to ensure alignment and to ensure that the requirements can be met on schedule, within budget. Develop and deliver a system test strategy to ensure requirements are met and system function is robust. Deliver an integrated platform that meets agreed needs and performs to standards agreed by the user and technical teams.
Key skills include systems engineering relevant to developing tool architecture and user interfaces, as well as quality needs-driven communication with technical staff, faculty, vendors and user communities. Demonstrated experience in managing projects across multiple technical staff/vendors is required. Demonstrated experience in needs analysis/requirements development, web-based platform architecture development, interface design, and system test is required. Experience or background in working with large data sets in statistical and graphic applications is preferred. Typically requires a bachelors degree in computer engineering, systems engineering, management information systems, or other information technology related field and 4-8 years of related experience in user interface design or systems engineering. This is an 18 month appointment with an additional 18-24 months expected from the same revenue source.
