New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks an innovative and experienced program manager/developer, and highly proficient communicator across business and academia, to direct business development activities associated with a federal grant and the start-up of a new entity, New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII). NJII is a New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the states science and technology university to challenges identified by industry partners in collaboration with government and other universities.
The Director, Cluster and Business Development will develop programs, supervise staff, and lead projects at the core of the NJ MarketShift program. NJ MarketShift is a cutting-edge Department of Defense-funded (DoD) program focused on broadening markets, strengthening innovation, and developing new enterprises within New Jerseys aerospace and defense (A&D) supply chain. The Director will serve a similar set of program development, marketing and communications oversight functions for NJITs newly-developing organization, NJII, that complement roles performed for NJ MarketShift.
Lead the development of specific NJ MarketShift services product innovation, enterprise development, and workforce skill development as well as provide leadership for marketing and communications activities associated with MarketShift. Contribute to user group activation and the development of market growth services. Serve as a second tier of overall program management for NJ MarketShift and supervise related personnel. Migrate successful programs from NJ MarketShift into general deployment within NJIIs suite of program services.
Create plans for the development of key NJ MarketShift services, identify and establish relationships with critical service development collaborators, manage the development of services and training modules, develop a marketing strategy for MarketShift services, ensure user group participation in services, and monitor the effectiveness of services in relationship to overall program goals.
Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for MarketShift, drawing upon the expertise of contractors, NJIT faculty members, and NJIT graduate students. Ensure the effective and timely delivery of market research to inform MarketShift services, the development of a MarketShift website and newsletter, and the creation of a media presence for MarketShift through conventional news media as well as social media outlets.
Provide support to the NJ MarketShift program manager in overall program management functions. Supervise NJIIs Relationship Manager for Cluster Development and Technical Project Manager positions. Provide program content for NJITs quarterly reports to DoD.
Key skills include program development and management, marketing and communications, and effective relationship-building experience, preferably in the academic and corporate spheres. Typically requires masters degree in business, economics, communications, project management, economic development, policy/planning, or related field and at least 5-7 years of related experience in program management and demonstrated experience with marketing and communications strategy implementation. This is an 18 month appointment with an additional 18-24 months expected from the same revenue source.
