The Department of Counseling, Adult and Higher Education (CAHE) at Northern Illinois University is seeking qualified applicants for the anticipated position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Adult and Higher Education Higher Education. The CAHE department is one of six units in the College of Education, and offers both masters and doctoral degrees in Counseling and Adult and Higher Education. The qualified candidate is expected to teach graduate courses in adult and higher education both on and off campus, with an emphasis in higher education. The position we are currently seeking to fill is a permanent, tenure-track position with a competitive salary based on experience.


The qualified candidate will have an earned doctorate (by the time of appointment) in higher education or a closely related field; Evidence of successful professional experience as a practitioner/educator in higher education administration, student affairs, or community college administration; Evidence of commitment to racial and cultural diversity; Evidence of experience in the use of technologies in teaching adult learners; Effective oral and written communication skills; and Evidence of a research agenda in higher education.


We are especially interested in candidates who have evidence of successful teaching in a university setting, preferably graduate level courses; Professional experience in a higher education environment; Evidence of experience in mentoring and advising graduate students and serving as a dissertation chair; Evidence of published research, grants, and conference presentations in higher education or closely related field; and involvement in state, regional or national professional associations.
