The Senior Major Gifts Officer will work to increase the Universitys fundraising capacity through the successful qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals having the capacity to make gifts of $25K to $1M.  This position also helps mentor less experienced gift officers and serves as a liaison to one of the Universitys academic programs.


  • Develop and manage a successful moves management strategy for 150+/- prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $25K to $1M. Territory: MD, VA, TX, DC, Western FL.
  • Build and advance strong personal and professional relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of Norwich that result in philanthropic contributions; serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for development programs at Norwich.
  • Work independently and creatively to match donor interests with institutional priorities. Develop funding proposals and negotiate and structure complex gifts, including planned gifts. Prepare briefings, stewardship plans/letters and other correspondence for prospects, collaborating with faculty and staff as needed.
  • Motivate and support senior leadership and volunteers to solicit gifts.
  • Ensure the timely capture and recording of data relating to the assigned prospect pool.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the Universitys campaign priorities, academic and extracurricular programs, and key faculty and administrators.
  • Work cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
  • Must handle confidential materials with appropriate discretion.
  • Significant travel required.



  • Bachelors degree required.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated success in closing major gifts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Raisers Edge experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
