Social Decision-Making and Sustainability

As part of a university-wide cluster hire in the area of building sustainable communities, the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University is seeking applications for a tenure track, assistant professor position in Social Psychology beginning in the Fall of 2015. Candidates whose research focuses on understanding decision-making and behavior affecting resilience and sustainability will be considered. Specific research topics of interest include judgment and decision-making, attitudes, social cognition, norms, or ideology. The successful candidate will add to the Social Psychology programs current strengths in social influence, group and interpersonal processes, stereotyping and prejudice, and relationships. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Social Psychology or a related field, a strong publication history, a research program with high likelihood of external funding, and a potential for teaching and mentoring excellence. Faculty responsibilities will include maintaining a productive research program, directing graduate student research, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Interested candidates may be considered for a joint appointment (up to 25%) in another department participating in the cluster, such as Communication, Political Science, Anthropology, or Philosophy, although the primary tenure home will be Psychological Sciences.
In addition, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated potential to play a vital role in Purdues new building sustainable communities initiative dedicated to finding new approaches to addressing major environmental and sustainability challenges. Purdues Center for the Environment will serve as the interdisciplinary hub for this research community. Purdue also hosts several interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs focused on sustainability, including undergraduate degrees in environmental and ecological engineering and natural resources and environmental science, as well as a graduate program in Ecological Sciences and Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in and contribute to these programs as well. More information on the cluster hire is available at www.purdue.edu/sustainablecommunities.
