The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at the IUPUI campus seeks to fill up to two tenure-track positions in Criminal Justice one at the rank of Assistant Professor and one at Open Rank. The areas of specialization are open for both positions.
We especially seek candidates who are policy-focused and inter-disciplinary in their perspectives or research programs to complement the broad public affairs focus of the school. Candidates with strong analytic skills are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must present evidence of high quality research and an ambitious research program, an interest in translational research, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching. The standard teaching load within the school is four courses per year, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and it may include online instruction.
A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered for an Assistant Professor position, but the degree must be completed prior to appointment. For candidates seeking a tenured position, an outstanding research record and scholarly reputation is required.
SPEA is a multi-disciplinary professional school of Indiana University, committed to excellence in research, teaching, and civic engagement. The Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses make up one core school. Among public affairs programs, SPEA programs are ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report. SPEA IUPUI has 650 undergraduates in criminal justice, public affairs, and sustainability majors as well as 370 graduate students in the NASPAA accredited MPA, Masters in Criminal Justice, and graduate certificate programs. This position is part of a major investment in research-intensive faculty at the SPEA Indianapolis campus, which has hired 14 tenure track faculty members and two clinical positions in the past three academic years.
IUPUI is a research-intensive institution, with over $300 million annually in external grants and contracts. SPEA-IUPUI maintains excellent relationships with state and local government agencies and departments. We encourage collaborative policy work with Indiana Universitys Public Policy Institute (PPI), which is housed on the Indianapolis campus. With over 30,000 students, IUPUI is the third largest campus in the state and confers more professional degrees than any other campus in Indiana. IUPUI is located in thriving downtown Indianapolis within walking distance to the state office complex and several museums and sports facilities.
