The Office of the Vice President for Research at Iowa State University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Operations Director. Reporting to the Vice President for Research (VPR), this position will serve as the chief planning and financial officer to help operationalize and implement the VPR Office's strategic plan. The position will be a key member of the VPR's leadership team, with the responsibilities for reviewing operations; managing financial, capital (facilities and equipment) and human resources; and working with the offices of the Provost, Business and Finance, University Human Resources, and Facilities Planning & Management to develop appropriate processes and programs in support of the VPR Office's goals.
Specifically, this position will provide leadership and direction for developing short- and long-term budget strategies and business plans; collect, maintain, and analyze timely outcome data to enable data-driven decision making; oversee capital planning and operations; staff development and personnel-related matters.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional organizational, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. The candidate will be capable of independent judgment, take initiative, and work collaboratively with VPR Office and partnering units. In addition the candidate must have the skills needed to understand and develop financial reports and analysis tools.
Bachelor's degree and 8 years related experience OR Master's degree and 6 years related experience OR Ph.D. or other doctoral/professional program and 3 years related experience. Experience must including leading and managing a team of professional staff.
- Master's or PhD in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
- Experience developing and analyzing financial reports.
- Experience with accounting, purchasing and HR policies of a large, complex organization.
- Strategic planning experience, specifically implementation and assessment (benchmarking, data creation, data management and analysis).
