This position is in the Division of IT within the Planning & Strategic Initiatives department supporting the Capital Area Advance Research and Education Network (CAAREN). This is a great opportunity with a major research university to collaboratively establish and grow shared research technology services and regional research network operations in support of a fast growing research environment. The senior network engineer of research will be involved with both service provider network design and operation and advanced research networking. The senior research network engineer is responsible for the planning, design, installation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation of the 24×7 GW research network service.


Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in computer science, information technology, or other IT-related field plus 10 years of relevant experience.


Desired Qualifications:

Masters or PhD in Computer Science.

 Experience in a large-scale, complex network environment.

 Extensive dynamic IP routing experience, particularly BGP.

 Experience with optical transport.

 Experience in a regional network service provider environment.

 Strong multicast routing experience, especially interdomain multicast routing.
