University Housing Services is responsible for delivering a comprehensive student housing experience, which includes operations in residential life, business operations, facilities management, conference services, and information systems.
Reporting to the Executive Director of University Housing Services, the Director for Housing Operations is responsible for development and delivery of a comprehensive package of services to residence hall students that ensures a high-level quality of life and well-being. The incumbent closely monitors department expenditures; prepares comprehensive evaluations/reports of actual costs against budgeted costs, forecasting, and reconciliations; develops and coordinates agreements for services; maintains and monitors contracts with vendors and ensures that State and University purchasing guidelines are strictly adhered to. The incumbent plans and organizes logistics of the department; establishes timelines and expected needs associated with the expansion; establishes annual and projected major maintenance and repair priorities on existing portfolio; and develops a capital maintenance plan. The incumbent directs a staff of conference professional and paraprofessionals; coordinates the use of campus facilities for services and programs; and ensures that contracts for groups are issued in an appropriate manner and collections are completed in a timely way. The incumbent oversees the technology area for the department including the housing management system (Odyssey) for online contracting, room management, and housing account status; serves on the Department Leadership Team which determines housing-wide policy and setting the goals and objectives for the housing program; serves in the capacity of the Director of University Housing Services in the Executive Directors absence; and performs other duties as assigned.
Candidates must have a Masters degree (or equivalent experience) in Business Administration, Public Administration, Education, Student Personnel, or a related fieldAND a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively increasing work in student housing, educational administration, student services, or a comprehensive operation with high expectations for customer service. Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the position; working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis techniques; ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved; and ability to anticipate, investigate, and analyze problems and address them proactively. The candidate must have demonstrated experience with all major areas of the position, including selection, supervision, and evaluation of staff; outstanding writing and oral communication skills and the ability to work occassional weekends and evenings to customer needs. Must have a Valid California Drivers License and the ability to drive daily to various locations on-campus and also as needed to off campus staff retreats and conferences (will use electric cart, van, and personal automobile).
